 Canterbury is an appealing place to stay, whatever time of the year you choose to visit. Many small hotels and period guesthouses can be found all over the city and generally offer a good standing of accommodation at various levels. The most desirable hotels in the city are those overlooking Canterbury Cathedral itself, although understandably these are usually fairly expensive and charge a premium for the view.
Visitors choosing to stay at hotels within the city itself will find that Canterbury is well placed to explore many surrounding areas of Kent's beautiful countryside and is also near to a number of ports, harbours and coastal attractions around Herne Bay, Whitstable and beyond. A range of accommodation is available in these areas, outside of Canterbury, with B&Bs and guesthouses always being firm favourites with tourists.

Hotels in central Canterbury are never far from the shops, restaurants and cathedral, all of which are within easy walking distance, especially those along High Street and Burgate. Favourite spots include hotels, B&Bs and other accommodation options along Castle Street, London Road, New Dover Road, North Holmes Road, Queens Avenue, St. Stephen's Road and also Whitstable Road.
Canterbury's helpful Tourist Information Centre along Sun Street will be happy to assist you find any suitable accommodation, using their modern, computerised reservation system. However, do bear in mind that the summer season, particularly between July and August, see a steep increase in hotel rates here, which can often double due to increased demand.
If you are looking for value / budget accommodation in Canterbury, there are a few alternatives to the numerous mainstream and chain hotels here. Popular options include Kipp's Independent Hostel at Nunnery Fields, the YHA Hostel and the Let's Stay Hostel, both of which are located along the New Dover Road. Two main camping sites can be found in this area, on Bekesbourne Lane just outside of Canterbury city centre, and on Stone Street in the nearby village of Petham.
